Designing a Web3 DeFi product with a total trading volume of:

$226B

A challenging issue faced in web3 is that the innovative crypto technology came before viable use cases. Web3 apps and ideas often sound great in theory but do not translate into tangible value. GMX (formerly Gambit) defied that narrative. We worked on the UI/UX design for the Decentralised Perpetual Trading Exchange for GMX/Gambit. The product has grown from strength to strength and is one of the most valuable DeFi projects in the entire web3 ecosystem.

GMX is currently ranked #247 of 14,678 crypto projects on CoinGecko.

Gambit

The team wished to create a trading platform with definitive character and class to stand out from the often clunky and intimating Web3 DeFi products.

Despite the minimal UI design, Gambit’s predecessor ‘XVIX’ was a highly functional and successful DeFi project. Gambit was an evolution of this product and the branding and UI needed to reflect that.

Gradients and vibrant colours in small doses were a way to communicate the quality and sophistication of the product in a style that set it apart from other DeFi products.

GMX

The most recent and successful iteration of products from the GMX team. A decentralised perpetual swaps platform. An extremely complex product which through minimal and functional UI design can flex all the powerful background tech in an intuitive user-friendly way.

Some familiar components were carried over from the Gambit design, we wanted to minimise mental load and achieved that by stripping back some of the colours and effects. A subtle but effective change.
